Sebastiaan Verhees is born in the Netherlands, 1982

.

He lives and works in Berlin since 2007

 

His work is awarded with the dutch Royal Award for Painting in 2008

 

Studies:

2005-2007 : DE ATELIERS, Amsterdam. Post-academic studies
2003-2004 : KHB WEIßENSEE, Berlin. International exchange
2001-2005 : HKU AUTONOME KUNST, Utrecht. BFA with honour

 

His art work has been shown in multiple institutions, museums, and off-spaces throughout the Netherlands and Germany, in groupshows, fairs and solo presentations. Most notably the GEM Museum for Contemporary Art (The Hague), Centraal Museum (Utrecht), Vrije Universiteit (Amsterdam), De Ateliers (Amsterdam), P/////AKT (Amsterdam), Expodium (Utrecht), Gemeentemuseum (The Hague), Academiegalerie (Utrecht), Westergasfabriek (Amsterdam) and Konsumat (Berlin, a short-lived art space he co-founded). The Startstipendium by Fonds voor Beeldende Kunsten was granted in 2008, and along the Royal Award for Painting in 2008, he recieved the PUG Award by the Utrecht Society for Arts and Science in 2007.

 

Many reviews have been written in favour of his work, appearing in daily newspapers such as De Volkskrant, NRC Handelsblad, Het Parool, BN De Stem, and De Groene Amsterdammer. A number of catalogues include his work, such as HC On The Move by Expodium, Violence Can Be Lovely by Studium Generale Utrecht, and Offspring by De Ateliers.
